I'm probably gonna get all ticked off on this one, so first let me start by saying, if you have ever donated anything to foster kids, toys or clothes or whatever, let me tell you, we APPRECIATE IT!! But....here comes the rant, and not to sound ungrateful, but the other day, I was at our foster parent Boutique and noticed a lot of donations. And again, for which I am very grateful, not just for our foster kid but also for ALL the foster kids that are able to utilize this wonderful facility. But what blows my mind is sometimes, the type of donations. What I'm talking about are bags and bags of used clothes that reaked of cigarette smoke and the bags of used clothes that were so old and out of fashion, I don't think anyone would want to use. My personal rule of thumb for outfitting my foster kids is this; If I wouldn't put "my own" children in these clothes, why in the world would I expect foster kids to wear them? Clothes that stink or have so many stains they couldn't be worn in public are unacceptable. Foster kids don't deserve second best, they deserve first best. Some hand me downs are appropriate for my kids and thus, appropriate for my foster kids as well. A pair of polyester pants from the 1970's is not appropriate except for maybe a Halloween costume! A shirt with 3 buttons missing and a hold is not appropriate for anyone, why in the heck would anyone think that was ok to give to foster kids to wear?? Seriously! Come on people. These kids have had crap their whole lives and for me, the crap stops here! I'm not insisting on name brand clothes, just good clothes. Wal Mart clothes are fine. Hand me downs are fine. Toys that are broken or have missing pieces are not fine. Got it? Thank you. I'm good now. Verbally purging is a great help!
So, Happy July 4th to y'all! Please be safe. We'll be having a celebration at my sisters this weekend with family from out of town, lots of food, fun and fireworks!
Happy Fourth of July y'all
